The Love of a Mother

Happy mother’s day! Throughout my life, I have been loved so deeply by both my mom and so many other moms out there who took me in as one of their own over the years. I am so blessed with the wealth of mother figures God gave me in my life.

But today, I want to focus on my mom in particular. Mama, this one is for you.

“Mother”

A mother loves right from the start,
No matter if her children are near or far apart.
A mother gives never-ending love.
She gives us comfort and peace like a beautiful dove.

For us she will always do her best,
Even when we put her patience to the test.
She wipes our tears,
Chases away our fears,

Encourages us to follow a dream,
No matter how far fetched it may seem.
Her gifts can never compare to any other.
I am so honored to call her my mother.

Looking back on another year,
I was so lucky to have a mother so dear.
So Mom, on your special day, relax and enjoy
And always know that I couldn’t have asked for any other
More incredible person to call my mother.

Throughout my life, my mom was a lot of things to me. She was my cheerleader, my friend, and sometimes my enemy (oh those teenage years), my supporter, my encourager. She was a consistently present mom, and often times had to be not only my mom but my dad as well.

Like I said, my mom has always been a lot of things for me throughout my life – she seemed to morph into all of the things that other people weren’t. When there was a hole in my life, my mom would figure out how to fill it.

As I became an adult myself, that is when I really learned how special the mother-daughter relationship is. It is something we take for granted as kids and teenagers, and it isn’t until we don’t see them every day and they aren’t a part of our day to day lives that we can really step back and observe the impact they have on us and our lives.

For me, my mom is one of my best friends. She still cares for me so deeply and so genuinely. Even being 23 years old, married, and living over 1000 miles away, our relationship is unparalleled and one I will always treasure. And as I continue further into adulthood, my mom still remains active in my life. When something medically may be going on, my mom is the first to call me every day to figure out what updates I have. When there is a major change such as a house move or a new job, my mom never fails to ask about it. When I go on trips of any kind, she still wants flight information, itineraries, etcetera. I could go on and on. She is still invested in my well-being and my life, even though we only see each other once or twice a year. But despite the inability to be physically present all of the time, she is still always there for me, and always wants the best for me, and to know I am okay.

My mom has always been there every step of the way, attending all our school events and extracurriculars, spending Saturday mornings at the soccer field as kids, and so many evenings at choral concerts or show productions as teenagers. She truly cared about everything my sister and I were passionate about, and she helped us be a part of every opportunity we wanted to.

I shared a poem at the start of this that is one that I love about mothers, especially because I feel it rings so true to mine. Each line of the poem is so beautifully written, and I couldn’t have said it better myself, so I wanted to share the poem with you. It is a beautiful picture of mothers, especially mine.

There are two other poems I would also like to share that I read online today, which I also feel paint a wonderful picture of who my mother is.

i struggle so deeply
to understand
how someone can
pour their entire soul
blood and energy
into someone
without wanting
anything in
return

Rupi Kaur

A mother wraps her love
around the heart of her child,
keeping each beat steady
through the rhythm of life
until wings take shape
and it’s time for the soul
to take flight.

My mom is sacrificial, and giving, and loving. She is someone who will love you without judgement or reservation. She is someone who will give and give and give, and never expect anything in return. She is truly where I learned my pillar of kindness from. She is the kind of woman who loves deeply and fully. And whoever is special to me, she also loves them deeply and fully. She is wise, more wise than my sister and I like to give her credit for at times, and she never has anything but our best interests at heart.

A mom’s love is so special, and I feel so lucky to be loved by my mom.

Making the move to Colorado changed my life for the better in so many ways, but one of the ways it made it harder is how my mom is over 1000 miles away, and I can’t just see her whenever I want to. [If you live near your mom, don’t take that for granted. You’ll never know just how hard the days are when you want nothing else but to sit with her, but the best you can get is a phone call.] My mom and I’s time together is just that much more special because of how limited it is these days, simply due to distance.

My mom made me into the woman I am today, in so many ways.

Mama – thanks for listening to my rants and my babbling always, and thanks for loving me so well, and thanks for always cheering me on. Thanks for supporting me in all I do, and thanks for everything you are and everything you helped me to be. I love you endlessly. Happy mother’s day!
